I came to your planet a few months ago in search of quality data management practices. Since that time, I have seen many things. I have been both pleasantly surprised and disappointed in how many of your companies are managing their data – or not managing it, as it were. As I complete my time on Earth, I’m preparing my final report to my superiors on Daton. Here’s a sneak peak.

I remain puzzled on my journey to your planet. The data management practices of most of your organizations continue to vex me.
Last week, I visited a retail outlet and watched closely as an IT manager (Mike) tried to solve a software problem from its enterprise systems. Ultimately, he opened an issue via the vendor’s support site. Let’s call the client here Omega and the software vendor Beta.

I’ve noticed that you people spend a great deal of time on social networks, especially when kickers miss field goals in football games. I find this really interesting. It seems like a relatively recent phenomenon. I would think that there’s a great deal of unlocked value in the data generated by social networks such as Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn.

I’ve have continued my investigation of your planet’s companies and data management habits. I’ve been dutifully reporting my findings to the Overlords at Daton but they are having a hard time understanding some of your management practices. I had planned on going home last week but my stay has been extended for a little while longer.
I’m not happy about this. Do you know how nice Neptune is during what you call February?
